Dr. Hajdu is a civil (hydraulic) engineer with over 25 years of professional experience in the area of construction engineering and management. After receiving his MS 1987 he gained admission to the doctoral school of the Faculty of Architecture at the Budapest University of Technology. He received his Ph.D degree in 1995. From 1990 he served as an assistant lecturer and from 1993 as an assistant professor. His teaching experience involved construction management,scheduling,cost estimation and operation research during this period. His research interest focused on scheduling and cost optimization of project in these years. In 1989 he developed the first scheduling application onto personal computer in Hungary,and in 1991 a computer application that could handle time-cost trade-offs. His Ph.D thesis discussed time-cost trade-off problems under different constraints.
In 1996 he spent a year in the Netherlands at the Delft University of Technology as a research fellow. The main result of his stay was a book on scheduling techniques published by Kluwer Academic Publisher. In 1997 he left the academic world and founded his own consulting company. Within this company he has developed the ProjectDirector software family which was successfully used for project planning and controlling the largest construction projects in Hungary. The company also offered planning and controlling services for construction companies. During this period he also has been the project manager or consultant of some of the largest Hungarian state financed projects as well (Construction project of the Budapest Sport Arena,project manager of construction of the facilities of the 2006 European Swimming Championship,project manager of the development of the new government district). In 2009 when he resigned from business the company was the largest in its field in Hungary. Doctor Hajdu partially went back to the academic life in 2003. Since then he worked as a head of the department of construction management. He solely has been concentrating on his academic pursuit since 2009. He is an active researcher and plays important role in organizing the scientific life in and out of Hungary. He has been organizing the Creative Construction Conference series - the largest conference on construction management in Europe since 2012. He was the founding president of the Hungarian Project Management Association (1997) and vice-president of the Hungarian Scientific Society for Building,chair of the organization committee of many Hungarian and international conferences. He also works as an editor or reviewer for numerous Hungarian and international journals. Presently he is the editor of the International Journal of Construction Management,member of the editorial board of Automation in Construction,Organization Technolgy and Management in Construction,Magyar Építőipar (Hungarian Construction Industry) and Ybl Journal of Built Environment.He has been a professor of research at the Budapest University of technology since September 2015. He actively publishes in internationally refereed journal. The number of his refereed publications exceeds one-hundred,including journal papers,books and edited books in Hungarian and English.
